The whole is important. The team, the group, the duo, the whole of the dance. Dance is almost always done with others, and any good community will support each other, lifting each other up and making sure they can depend on one another. Andres was inspired by this topic while going through TSA security and being frustrated by someone who was not observing the proper flow of the assembly line. By ignoring the flow, disregarding the whole of the situation, they made things harder not only for Andres, but for themselves and the entire line. This is why it is important to acknowledge the whole of a situation.

This also applies to dance and human communication. The success of an individual is directly connected to the team’s wellbeing. Much like in a line, the dance does not go forward unless every part of the machine is working in concert. With dance, you want to use everyone’s skills to create something greater than the sum of its parts. By working together, energy is not added, but multiplied and magnified.

However, for this to work, you need to acknowledge that you are working with a team when you dance. Many often forget or do not realize this. Dancing at the club is also working as a team.Even ignoring things like technique, skill, or style, it is important to be aware of others around you so that you don’t knock someone over or hurt someone. If you’ve gone to clubs or dances a lot, you have probably seen someone knock over another dancer or bump into a waiter with a tray full of drinks. These people were not watching their surroundings. They are not aware of the team or of the whole.

There’s very little worse than seeing the energy sucked out of a room by someone who is not considering the needs and feelings of others. This obviously makes the entire group unhappy, uncomfortable, and ruins their experience. On top of that, the selfish dancer is hurting himself, creating a worse, more tense environment for himself. Plus at the end of the day, he might end up getting hated by everyone in the room. When you are dancing, it’s important to acknowledge the others in the group. When everyone has a good time, you all have a better time.

“A lot of people are thinking ‘well that’s some airy fairy stuff and some energetic spiritual stuff. No! I am literally talking about if you help the team then you yourself will be benefited more than if you didn’t!
