Hey familia, welcome back! This episode is about something I’ve been thinking about a lot—how hard it is to truly communicate. Even when we speak the same language, a lot can still get lost. That happens on the dance floor too. I want to talk about something I see a lot in salsa dancing that doesn’t sit right with me—and it’s something I think we can all learn from.

- When I watch social dance videos, sometimes I feel no difference whether the music is on or off.
- That’s a problem—we should be dancing with the music, not just doing moves.
- Dancing should be like tasting food when you cook—you need to feel the music to dance it right.
The dance floor is a canvas, not a stage
- I don’t think we’re here to just show off or repeat moves we learned.
- The floor is for expressing feelings, not for “executing files.”
- If we’re not listening, we’re missing the whole point of the dance.
It’s about respect
- Using the song without feeling it is disrespectful—not just to your partner, but also to the musicians who made it.
- They poured their heart into the music, and we should honor that when we dance.
Intention matters more than language
- Sometimes people who don’t speak the same language communicate better because they try harder.
- That’s what I mean by intention—genuine effort to connect.
- We can learn a lot about listening and respect from that kind of connection.
Try dancing a song with no moves
- Yes, that sounds wild—but try it.
- Beginners usually do better at this than advanced dancers because they have fewer habits to break.
- Just feel the music and your partner. No turn patterns. No choreography. Just feeling.
Feeling is the goal
- The goal of social dance is to feel, not to perform.
- Ask yourself: Are you really listening? Or are you playing videos in your head and trying to impress others?
Let your body be the music
- Dance in a way that shows what the music feels like.
- If someone watches your dance on mute, they should still get an idea of what kind of song is playing.
- If you dance every song the same, something’s wrong. The music is different—you should be too.
You’re not the same person you were before
- After listening to this, you’re already different. You’ve changed.
- Every moment is a chance to grow, to listen more, to feel more.
