Welcome back to Salsa Kings LIVE podcast! Today, we go into the concept of “purity” in dance. Building upon our previous episode, “Arroz con Mango,” where we discussed the influence of external factors like the music on our dance, we now explore the idea of stripping away our mental layers to let the music consume us.

Key Points:

  1. Removing Layers: Our goal is to strip away the layers of insecurities, expectations, and external influences, allowing only the music to guide our movements. We want the dance to be a pure expression of the song in our bodies.
  1. Letting the Music Consume You: The ultimate aim is to let the music manifest in our bodies, while also expressing your inner emotions in your dance. This creates a genuine connection between the dancers and the music that’s sustainable and enjoyable.
  1. Sustainability: While dancing with intense emotions may give you the dancer’s high or your “click”, it’s not sustainable in the long term. Removing insecurities and relying solely on the music leads to more consistent and fulfilling dance experiences.
  1.  Boost and Music: The music should always be your #1 source of inspiration when dancing. However, if you are feeling emotions and you want to express them, you can use those emotions as a boost to express yourself and the music even more. Just make sure your emotions and the music are in agreement and that you are not just using the song for it’s numbers.

Quotes:

  • “Let the music consume you… we want the song to be manifested in the body.”
  • “Purity is not always the goal… what is ‘funner’ for you?”
  • “The growth should be linear, steady… don’t rely on emotions as a foundation.”

Closing Thoughts: By shedding our layers and letting the music take control, we experience deeper connections and more authentic expressions. While intense emotions offer temporary boosts, true growth comes from steady progress and paying attention to the music. It’s a journey that’s not short but, the steady one always wins the race, but don’t be afraid to boost yourself when the opportunity presents itself.
